Thesis Week 5 & 6
Week 5
Gathering more insights
I had more conversations — one with a resident specializing in OB/GYN and a pregnant mother of a two year old. From these conversations as well as prior interviews, I was able to connect some dots and came up with some insights:
- Don’t act until symptoms are severe
- Think in the short term
- Not many have a specialized doctor but when they do it’s a long and trusting relationship
- Ask experienced friends for guidance
Value propositions
Based on the above insights, I came up with four value propositions.
- Help form daily health habits
- Prepare women for health changes
- Easy access to resources
- Build safe and trusting community
Challenges
During this week, I struggled with framing questions with interviews and in general navigating a broad topic.
Week 6
My challenge this week was staying focused, which was very difficult because it was election week — the biggest distraction of them all.
Reflecting and preparing for the midterm
This week, I did some reflection on my research and my process so far to prepare for the upcoming midterm presentation.
I looked back on my previous problem statement, which was created first based on assumption and rewrote it to better fit the insights I’ve found so far.
Problem statement: Women need better access to health resources and information.
Brainstorming potential solutions
I started thinking about potential solutions that fit into my insights and value props and came up with the following three.
- A platform connecting women to each other and health professionals. The goal is to create a safe community for women to find and discuss health topics with other women who have experienced the same.
- A personalized health tracking app using AI and data from daily surveys. This can help women find irregularities with their health after a period of time.
- A game to grow personal avatar. Inspired by tamagotchis, women are tasked to help their avatars prosper. Related tasks help women learn more about their bodies and mind.
